LAJA: Tell us about your journey thus far.

PV: I am independent, ambitious, religious, kind hearted, determined, 34-year-old unmarried young lady. I am presently associated with Giving Back Foundation NGO & Lifetime member of Laja Forum.

I was awarded and crowned as Inspiring Gem of India by Dr. Shivangi Maletia.

LAJA: Tell us something about your family background and education

PV: I come from a middle class family. My father is retired and my mother is a post office and LIC agent. My brother is an Asst. Manager in ICICI Bank. Financially, we have seen some very tough times. I took admission in a government college because I could not afford the fees of a private college. I used to give tuitions so that I could shoulder financial responsibilities at home. I started my first job in a BPO in 2007, with a starting salary of Rs.5000/- only. This was along with the tuitions that I was giving. Yet, it was difficult to manage the expenses. I changed 2-3 jobs and with the grace of God, things started getting better.

I have been in the corporate world for the last 13 years. Being unmarried at the age of 34 years, I face a lot of challenges in my everyday life from society. People make their own stories and gossip. But I believe that if one is on the right path, one must ignore these things and carry on along that path. And that’s exactly what I am doing.

LAJA: What are the challenges you faced in your entrepreneurial journey?

PV: Throughout my corporate life, I faced a lot of the usual challenges, the main one being office politics. The “Yes” man (or in this case, woman) of the boss tends to be the more successful team member. But I was never the one to give into these situations.

Rather I stuck to my principles and today, I am proud to say that I have come up the hard way.

LAJA: What are the most satisfying moments in your career?

PV: Most satisfying & proud moment in my professional life was when I got awarded and crowned as one of the INSPIRING GEMS OF INDIA by Dr. Shivangi Maletia – Queen in the making.

LAJA: What are some of your failures and mistakes and your learnings from them?

PV: Failures – none. I would say I have faced many challenges and learnt a lot from each of them.

As far as mistakes go, yes I feel I trusted people too easily and paid a price for it.

LAJA: How would you define success?

PV: Success to me is the feeling of inner satisfaction and happiness that you get by achieving your goals.

LAJA: What advice would you like to give your fellow woman entrepreneurs?

PV: Firstly, always listen to your inner voice. Secondly, have the courage to stand up for your self-respect. Thirdly, trust in God and His plans – be happy and never give up.

LAJA: Do you feel formal education play a role in being successful?

PV: No, not completely as scenarios in real life are very different.

LAJA: How do you generate new ideas to keep your family happy and grow your business?

PV: I try to make my family laugh by doing funny things.
